Each piece begins with a chaotic sound which represents the severity of the patient’s illness prior to starting dTMS treatment based on the Clinical Global Impression- Severity scale (CGI-S scale). The sound then morphs through beats and pitches with each dTMS treatment session the patient received. The sound becomes lower and lower in pitch as the patient’s rating on the CGI-S scale goes down. At the end of the piece, there are long, obvious swells in the sound which represent the number of medications the patient exhausted before trying dTMS treatment. The piece then concludes with the stagnant sound of the patient’s severity after completing dTMS treatment based on the CGI-s scale. This release from long swells to stagnant sound represents the relief of finding something that works for you after a long road of persistence.
